- Expression of Interest are invited for Impact Assessment of The Gender Equality and Returns (GEAR) Program in Bangladesh Productivity and Working Conditions. GEAR aims to redress the gender imbalance in the ready-made garment industry of Bangladesh, while also improving line-productivity in factories, where on average 80% of line-workers consist of women but only 5% of line-supervisors are women. GEAR is a joint initiative of IFC and the ILO under the partnership of Better Work. GEAR trains female operators and their managers to develop skills that ease the path for women to progress into supervisory roles in ready-made garment factories in Bangladesh. The pilot phase of GEAR with 28 factories completed in 2018. Implementation of the scale-up with an additional 50 factories in partnership with apparel brands is expected to be completed by June 2022. A firm (the Firm) will be hired to conduct impact assessment in terms of productivity and working conditions in participating factories in the GEAR scale-up.
