Description:
Thegoal of this assignment is to provide technical advice andcapacity building to LGED on implementation of the green roads for waterconcept. Nature-based solutions (NBS) are alse expected to be compiled andshared with LGED for the purpose of the integration of climate changeadaptation and resilience in rural roads and water management in Bangladesh-srural areas. This activity aims to build knowledge on integratingclimate change adaptation and adopting NBS and water management in the design,construction and maintenance of rural roads and bridges in Bangladesh. The activity aims at supporting LGED to adoptnew practices in the design and maintenance of rural roads that (i) will reducedamage to road assets (e.g. bridges, pavement, etc.); (ii) identify cost-effectivemeasures to mitigate climate and disaster risks; (iii) reduce negative effectsfrom transport infrastructure to surrounding due to water flow during extremeweather events; and (iv) support the identification and dissemination of assetsthat can serve multiple purposes; i.e. water harvesting, controlled discharge, etc.in terms of harvested water and increased flood protection using the rural roads.It is expected that this TA would also buildthe capacity of the domestic road construction industry and community-basedlabor groups (e.g., Labor Contracting Societies) besides LGED officials, in mainstreamingthe use of the green roads concept and nature-based solutions to strengthen theclimate resilience of rural road infrastructure and local communities livingalong those rural roads. ThisActivity will support a comprehensive approach to broaden water managementapproach for rural road asset management, such as borrow pits, road drifts, erosion,flooding, waterlogging, drainage congestion and sedimentation. It will reviewthe practices (e.g., mangroves/wetlands management in the proximity of ruralroads) and determine if those could be adopted for strengthening resilience oftransport connectivity in the haor (lake/wet lan...
